Are you able to physically support your kids in any of their athletic pursuits?

Dr. Aaron Madson • Dec 05, 2022

If you're struggling to get off the sidelines, here are a few things to consider.

If you're struggling to get off the sidelines, here are a few things to consider. Do you want to ride your bike with your son while he does his 13 mile long runs? Are you able to rebound or play ball handling drills with your daughter because she wants to start on her high school basketball team? Or is your bad back keeping you out of the game? Or are you too out of shape to keep up with them, but you don't know where to start?

The opportunities for our kids continue to grow wildly through youth sports. There are many life lessons that our kids learn while competing in sports; how to be a part of a team, how to win, how to lose, how to work to improve your skills, etc. Some kids are able to take advantage of their talent and hard work and help pay for higher education through achievement of athletic scholarships. In order to achieve any sort of success in life, hard work is needed, and sports is no exception. My question to the parents of these hard working student-athletes is this. Are you physically able to support your kids in their athletic goals and dreams?

The physical pain of trying to help your kids be better athletes is nothing compared to the pain you may feel if you want to help but you can't. At Heartland Health & Wellness, we don't believe bad knees, a bad back, or whatever other nagging injury you may have should stop you from playing with your kids and showing them that "Dad's still got it."

Chiropractic care has been continuously shown to help reduce, and in some cases eliminate, low back pain. Because low back pain can have several different causes, the best way to address it is through a comprehensive exam to determine the specific cause of the pain. It may be a disc issue, it could be an SI joint problem, or it could be a hip problem that is causing issues in the low back. In order to deliver the best results, an accurate diagnosis is everything.

At Heartland Health & Wellness, we begin our treatment plans with adjustments to make sure the bones are moving appropriately. Then we add stabilization exercises to strengthen the area so that we lessen the chances of flare ups in the future.

Or maybe Dad still DOES have it, but he's only good for 4 possessions. We can sit down with you and help you structure a nutrition plan to help you cut that extra 15 pounds. We start by talking about metabolism and finding out how many calories YOUR body needs to stay alive. We then find a proper distribution of proteins, fats, and carbohydrates that is within the framework of your calorie count, and give you some tips and tricks to properly fuel your body.

If you want your kids to be invested in their health and their athletic performance, show them that you are invested in your own health and physical performance too. Let us help you get back in the game by taking care of the aches and pains, and get your diet back in check so you can lead by example for your kids!
